HCV super clinic

Recorded: February 9th 2023
Duration: 28:21

Helen Caldwell, Consultant Nurse, Hepatology, Royal Liverpool University Hospital shared her insights and successes with the Cheshire and Merseyside HCV super clinic service. This innovative, nurse-led model works closely with expert patients (peers), drug centres and pharmacists to create a system that can test and treat patients within 1.5 hours. Here Helen describes the clinic’s journey over 30 years from the early days of HCV treatment, through their incredible achievements during COVID lockdown, to developing a post-COVID clinic model built on teamwork, cooperation and incentives. Helen candidly shared the challenges faced in treating ‘difficult to reach’ populations and the pragmatic solutions her team has employed to overcome these. Delegates described Helen’s talk as “inspirational” and there are sure to be elements of the super clinic model that could be adapted for other localities and settings across the UK.
