Lisa Ellis explained how her team gathers the necessary information on people referred with RNA-positive hepatitis C tests and shared insights on flexible approaches to ensure treatment reaches the patients who need it. The pandemic forced changes in patient interactions, and uncovered surprising advantages from different ways of working.
Lisa Ellis has been working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Liver Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham since 2016.
Lisa has previously worked as a BBV Nurse within the drug and alcohol services between 2003 and 2012. This included 2 years as a non-medical prescriber for opiate substitute treatment. Lisa’s work with hepatitis C began in 1998 when she was first involved in teaching patients to self-inject interferon on a weekly basis.
Lisa strongly feels that seeing the evolvement of hepatitis C treatment being easy to access, well tolerated and without any barriers is truly amazing. The elimination of hepatitis C is a huge challenge but requires perseverance, patience and energy to engage the disengaged.
