Amy Teague and Pippa Murray discuss how viral hepatitis care can be optimised following BBV Optout testing in A&E.
Amy Teague qualified as a nurse in 2018 from King’s College London University. Amy has been working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Hepatology since 2022 when she joined the Royal Free Hospital. She has a specialist interest in managing viral hepatitis and Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease. She leads on a number of community services for Hepatitis C treatment and the MASLD service at the Royal Free Hospital. She is an active researcher and is motivated by a particular interest in broadening access and engagement in healthcare.
I started off my nursing career in 2015 after graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University. I joined the Acute Medical Unit at the Royal Oldham hospital not quite knowing what type of nursing I wanted to go into. From there I moved to the Infectious Diseases ward and then onto Intensive care where I completed the Critical Care course. I enjoyed experiencing a wide range of nursing over different specialties and I am currently undertaking the Non-Medical Prescribing course.
I joined the Hepatitis Team at North Manchester General Hospital in 2020 just prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. With my past ITU experience I was redeployed twice. I then returned to the team which was ever evolving with the expansion of the Community Liaison team and the introduction of the Hep C Trust Peers who have been instrumental in the success towards micro-elimination of HCV.
I have enjoyed contributing to new nursing pathways for hepatitis B and C to accommodate the increasing patient numbers that we are now seeing following the introduction of ED Opt-out ED testing.
